    That’s an ironic statement considering what happened as a result of the rejection of traditional religion among 18th century French philosophers. Revolutionaries, citing Voltaire in particular, converted the cathedrals of Paris in “Shrines to Reason,” and then went on to perpetrate one of the most violent epics in French history. Today it is known as the “Reign of Terror.”
    @Richard B – “I think, therefore I am” is Descartes, not Voltaire. Ironically, Descartes uttered this statement as the key part of his argument *for* Christianity.
